No need.  A file manager, [0] or [1], will show you the different 
'Download(s)' folders.

Resetting won't hurt anything unless you have trouble managing content 
in the file system.

Not at all.  The Google Apps package (GApps) is optional and not 
required for downloading or installing .apk files from source locations 
or F-Droid.
